Bugged!

Along with the food photography fetish that I've been developing, this summer (more, definitely, to follow), I've been spending a lot of time gardening and, while in the garden, I've been spending a lot of time with these guys.

The BUGS!

Some of them definitely have their charms...

Some of them are so beautiful...

...and then there are the ummm... er.... the.... er.... well.... hm!

You just gotta love that face!!!

 All of them are so fascinating and beautiful, really. Although, I have to confess, there were a few that I passed quickly by.

But, today, I've had an idea!

What about combining bugs and food photography.... you know... like the old dutch masters?!

 ...or, well, maybe not!

What will I come up with next?! =/

A slice of blueberry almond torte, anyone...???

The men of my family (my husband and three sons) are well pleased with the new direction my photography obsession has taken.

Food photography!!!

Our images should come from somewhere inside of us, right? Be an expression of who we are, right? Well, there's a deep-rooted heritage of hospitality in my family tree. I grew up with my mom and her best friend putting on grand, several course dinners that took days to prepare. I was always in charge of setting a fancy table from my mother's china cabinet. In that treasure chest of wonders was everything from sweet floral chintz plates to piles of boldly colored, vintage fiesta-ware. It was like the ultimate expression of playing house! So fun!!!

Speaking of.... going further back... when I was a little girl (the little girl of my last post, in fact =]), I was completely entranced - enchanted - MESMERIZED by this Sesame Street segment:

So! I've been trying my hand at food photography. Ummmm, it's not as easy as it looks! But, one has to start somewhere, right?

and that's what I've been up to in these happy, late summer days. =]

Coincidence?

I've had this old photo of me in my mind for a couple of weeks, now. Is it because I had glanced at THIS image when it first came out and it's been tumbling around in my subconscious since? Or, is it a cosmic moment of great minds thinking alike? (hee, hee, hee, hee, hee!! ;-) It really could be - you never know!) Or, is it just a bunch of things in life reminding me - pointing me - in the direction of 'little Katy', happily off in her own world? Doesn't matter, does it? =]

What I know for sure is that this is one of the things that I do love*love*love about photography: 'a moment frozen in time'! =]

Outside

 I live outside the box.

Sometimes, I look through the windows of the box and see all of the lovely people sitting so safely inside and, sometimes, I've tried to find my way in. But, I never do. So, instead, I stay outside in the meadow and pick wildflowers.
